Camelot undergoes surgery for potentially fatal condition

11th October 2012

• Three-year-old diagnosed with colic
• ‘It’s still early days,’ tweets Coolmore Stud

Camelot, the Derby winner, has undergone surgery for colic, a potentially fatal intestinal condition, at an equine hospital near his stable in County Tipperary, Ireland.

The Coolmore Stud, where Camelot is expected to stand as a stallion at the end of his racing career, said on Twitter on Thursday evening that vets at the Fethard Veterinary Hospital had carried out “exploratory” surgery on the three-year-old.

The tweet added: “Obviously it’s still very early days but a further bulletin will be released in the morning.”

Camelot also won the 2,000 Guineas and Irish Derby this season, but finished only seventh in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in Paris last weekend. © 2012 Guardian News and Media Limited or its affiliated companies.
